K is for Kids’ 4th annual Bring a Book, Bring a Friend Book Fair and Book Drive is just three weeks away! Mark your calendar now to join our fun’raiser on Saturday, February 11th at Barnes & Noble at Waterside Shops in Naples. Last year, children met First Lady of Florida Ann Scott.The First Lady received K is for Kids’ first Shining Star award in recognition of her support in helping K is for Kids bring reading and books to thousands of children in need across Collier County. Who will be K is for Kids’ 2011 Shining Star award recipient? Watch for the news to be released soon!
Registration for the the fun’raiser begins at noon and will last all afternoon until 4:00 p.m. Participants will get to meet two guest authors. K is for Kids is honored to have author Lisa Fleming present her debut children’s book “Cat and Crow: an amazing friendship.” We also welcome the return of HarperCollins author Margaret Cardillo whose “Just Being Audrey” book enchanted youngsters last year. Margaret will be giving children a writing workshop before they get to put pencil to paper and write their own story for K is for Kids’ fourth commemorative, special edition young authors book. Lane Wilkinson Photography will take their complimentary personal photograph to accompany their story.
Next participants get to have their books signed by the authors and also meet Walt Timoney who will be ‘twisting’ balloons for the children into clever creations. Members of K is for Kids’ Teen Advisory Team will also be offering face painting.
Book Fair: A portion of ALL proceeds will help K is for Kids purchase new books for Collier County children in critical need, whether a guest purchases a book, a Nook or a coffee from the cafe’.
Book Drive: This is a Bring a Book, Bring a Friend Fun’raiser and we invite guests to donate new and bring in their gently used books. Books will be accepted at the registration table downstairs to the right of the escalator.
