Big Book Giveaway Project, Days 4 & 5: Target donates book shelves; teens finish Young Readers room, begin Fiction for Young Adults room

The Big Book Giveaway project turned a corner when Target stores — Naples, North Naples, Gulf Coast Center and Coconut Point — donated bookshelves to help get books out of boxes and ready for display for K is for Kids’ Big Book Giveaway on March 27th at Cypress Self Storage in north Naples.  Volunteers and our high schools made important strides, too.

Thanks to local Target stores in Collier and Lee Counties, we had all the bookshelves we needed, and more.  After the Big Book Giveaway and our annual book distribution to grant recipients, K is for Kids will donate the shelves not needed to those schools and organizations enrolled in our literacy programs.

Two Patricks, one senior and one junior, begin to build the bookshelves donated by Target stores at Naples, North Naples, Gulf Coast Town Center and Coconut Point.

Day 5:  Cynthia, a Gulf Coast High School senior and Teen Advisory Team member, finished the Young Readers Room.  Coinciding with K is for Kids’ Big Book Giveaway is its annual distribution of community donated books.  Above, offerings range from baby board books to those for middle school students.

Cynthia records one of the last book collections donated by another Teen Advisory Team member for middle and high school students.

Naples High School senior Danielle, continues preparing the fiction books before placing them onto the first bookshelves to be assembled for the Fiction for Young Adults Room.

Day 5:  The first bookshelves are up in the Fiction for Young Adults Room.
