Fun’raising Keeps Getting Better with K is for Kids

7th Annual Kids Celebrate Reading Book Fair Honors Readers and Leaders in SWFL

NAPLES, Fla., (Feb. 17, 2015) – K is for Kids Foundation continues their “fun’raising” season with the 7th Annual Kids Celebrate Reading Book Fair at Barnes & Noble Booksellers at the Waterside Shops in Naples, FL on Saturday, Feb. 28th from 12 pm to 4 pm. Three guest authors will be featured followed by lots of family fun activities for kids of all ages throughout the afternoon. The event is free and open to the public.

The featured authors include Joe Johnson of “The College Kids” and “Pursue Your Purpose Not Your Dreams”, Jennifer Dana Deane of “A is for…fruit A to Z”, and Julianna Howard author of “Catie the Copycat”.

In honor of the “Bring a Book, Bring a Friend®” for Children’s Literacy Month, the first 100 participants will also be treated to a complimentary children’s book by local author Ellen Myers of “Freddie’s Friends” and “Annie’s Shoes”.

After meeting the guest authors, youngsters will have a brief writing workshop then have the chance to write a book together as they put pen to paper to share a “very short” story for the commemorative K is for Kids’ Young Author Book! Kids can write with family or friends, or tell their story to one of K is for Kids’ teen volunteers. The young authors may illustrate their story or have a complementary photograph taken.

Other “fun’raising” stations for the kids hosted by the foundation’s student leaders include activities such as face painting, a scavenger hunt, author signings, and balloon twisting by Walt Timoney. Kids and teens will also be playing and competing in the “Adventure of Ai” video game contest. The top five scorers will receive a free eBook of the same name. There will lots of prizes and children who complete all the activities will have the chance to win a basket of books in the raffles that wrap up the afternoon.

The annual book fair helps support the K is for Kids’ mission of building readers and leaders – guests only have to mention “K is for Kids” when making a purchase at any of the registers throughout the store — whether for a book, a Nook or a coffee at the Café’ — and a portion of their proceeds will help purchase new books for children in need. Participants may also bring in a book to donate a book for a child in need.

Collier County Media Specialists who are K is for Kids’ grant recipients will also be on hand choosing new books for their students as part of their annual shopping spree sponsored by the foundation.

All students who volunteer or participate in the event may earn community service hours.
