Big Book Giveaway Continues! Opening day was a huge success. Doors are now open to ALL educators throughout Collier & Lee counties.

The Big Book Giveaway was a huge success! Participants “shopped” for free books for their libraries, enjoyed a free lunch courtesy of Cypress Self Storage, and shared more smiles than we could count.  Now the doors will open for ALL EDUCATORS to come choose books for their students, and themselves as well.  At left: GCHS senior Tyler Clevett’s 3-D poster.

Tyler Clevett, a senior at Gulf Coast High School and Teen Advisory Team member, not only created the logo for K is for Kids' Big Book Giveaway, but a unique three-dimensional poster. In the background is the Young Readers Room created by Cynthia Booz, also a Gulf Coast High senior.

The afternoon began with a warm welcome and complimentary lunch courtesy of Cypress Self Storage for Collier County Media Specialists who were attending a county-wide meeting at nearby Gulf Coast High School.  Participants were invited to preview the four large book rooms donated by Cypress for K is for Kids to display the 13,000-plus books on display for the Big Book Giveaway and the annual distribution of books by the Foundation to its grant recipients.

Before guests returned to their meeting, volunteers from the Best Buy team — on hand that morning to help heave the last boxes to their respective rooms — raffled off two prizes: a gift bag full of yummy treats donated by Trader Joe’s, followed by a first edition, first printing of the annotated book of “Phantom Tollbooth.”
